As part of your course, you may have the opportunity to take part in trips and enrichment activities that show how electrical skills are used across different settings, from construction and engineering to power, maintenance and specialist projects. Previous students have visited power stations to see how they operate, as well as Alton Towers to learn more about the electrical systems behind the rides. Students can also take part in internal and external competitions with other colleges throughout the year, with great prizes on offer.
Industry opportunities
We have excellent links with industry and have helped students to gain apprenticeships and employment with local companies. All full-time students are required to complete work experience as part of their study programme, giving them the chance to develop workplace skills alongside college-based learning.
Every year we have local employers contact us to recruit our best students, give talks on what they look for in an individual, and give away prizes for the best and most improved student.

Electrical Installation is a hands-on subject, so practical learning is at the centre of our courses. Our students have gone on to work for major electrical contractors on some very exciting projects including The Shard, Crossrail and Heathrow Airport. Others have joined apprenticeship programmes working for the Red Bull F1 team.
