Periodic Inspection, Testing & Certification of Electrical Installations City & Guilds 2391-51 Level 3 Award

This qualification helps you to develop the knowledge and practical skills required to professionally carry out inspection and testing on electrical installations. This qualification offers three pathways depending on the type of inspection and testing required or previous qualifications gained by learners.

Who is the qualification for?

This qualification is intended for electricians that hold relevant Level 3 Electrotechnical qualifications, who want to undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD), learn new skills, and enhance their understanding of periodic inspection and testing of electrical installations. The qualification prepares candidates for the periodic inspection of electrical installation work.

Learners achieving the outcomes of this unit will have demonstrated that they are competent in accordance with the National Occupational Standards (NOS) for the Electrotechnical Industry.

Course Information

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification. However, centres must ensure that candidates have the potential and opportunity to successfully gain the qualification.

It would be expected that candidates have a basic knowledge and understanding of electrical science and principles and experience on electrical installation work either within the electrical contracting industry or an allied trade.

The qualification

Successful candidates receive an industry-recognised Level 3 qualification from the awarding body City & Guilds.

Course content

This unit is designed to enable learners to understand principles, practices and legislation for the initial verification of electrical installations with statutory and non-statutory regulations and requirements.

Its content is the knowledge needed by a learner to underpin the application of skills for the periodic inspection, testing and condition reporting of electrical installations.

Units of study:

  • 501 Practical Assignment
  • 051 Online Multiple Choice Test .

Delivery Methods:

Four days.

Assessment methods

E-Volve online exam. Dated Entry written exam and practical exam at the completion of the course.

 

 

Further study and career options

It allows candidates to progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  1. Level 3 Award in Initial Verification and Certification of Electrical Installations
  2. Level 4 Award in the Design and Verification of Electrical Installations
  3. ILM management and leadership qualifications
Additional information

This qualification must not be taken by learners new to the industry who do not possess sufficient skills, knowledge, and experience to undertake inspection and testing safely and competently.

This qualification is also not suitable for learners with limited experience of working in the electrotechnical sector, or who do not already hold relevant Level 3 electrotechnical qualifications.

Centres should conduct a thorough initial assessment of applicants to establish that their current skills, knowledge, and experience is sufficient prior to qualification enrolment.

Candidate will need a copy of BS 7671:2018 (2022) 18th Edition & On -Side Guide and Guidance Note 3.

Funding Information

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
