This course is intended for personnel in electrical contracting companies who have responsibility for the quality of the design, specification, installation, and inspection and testing processes. It addresses in particular, the implications of the Wiring Regulations for Electrical Installations.

Entry requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking this qualification. However, before undertaking this qualification, you should have technical qualifications, Level 3 Inspection & Testing, Level 3 latest edition of IET Wiring Regulation as well as obtaining industry experience.

Before undertaking this qualification, you must undertake the Initial Verification & Certification of Electrical Installations Level 3 Award (City & Guilds 2394-0, 2391-50 & 2391-52) as well as obtaining industry experience. It is also strongly recommended that candidates have achieved either the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS7671 City & Guilds 2382-22 Level 3 Award or similar qualifications where you will have demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the 18th Edition in order to ensure they have every opportunity of achieving this qualification.

Course content

You will learn about design, erection and verification of electrical installation. You will learn, develop and practise the skills required designing and scoping electrical installations.

After the course you will also be able to progress into employment or onto a Level 4 course.

Units of study:

  • Unit 401: Design, Construction Management and Initial Verification of Electric Installations (Assignment)
  • Unit 402: Design, Construction Management and Initial Verification of Electrical Installations (Written exam)
Assessment methods

City & Guilds via QCF. Successful candidates receive an industry-recognised Level 4 qualification from the awarding body City & Guilds.

Further study and career options

They allow candidates to progress into employment or to the following City & Guilds qualifications:

  • Level 4 Higher Professional Diploma in Building Services Engineering (4467-04)
  • ILM Management and Leadership qualifications

Funding Information

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
