Laying the foundations of an exciting future
The Foundation Skills Programme is aimed at young people with identified learning difficulties and/or disabilities.
The programme will enable you to develop your social, personal, employability and independent learning skills within a supported environment. You will take part in a range of subjects, which will include independent living skills, work preparation, community skills, English and maths.

You will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of trips and learning activities. Previously, students have gone on team building exercises at Shuttleworth College and Milton Keynes, as well as trips to London and local community venues. These trips will build your confidence, self esteem and develop your teamwork skills ready for the world of work.
Industry opportunities
You will get plenty of opportunities to apply the skills that you have developed while studying outside of the classroom with supported work experience placements. We have developed successful partnerships with over many local employers, who offer both voluntary and paid employment opportunities.
Previous students have been placed with major retailers such as Wilkinson, B&M, Tesco, Costa, McDonalds, Colemans Stationers, Premier Inn, Higgins Museum and local charity shops.
Expert tutors and top-class facilities
Both our Kettering and Bedford campuses have brilliant facilities with our dedicated centre, the Stansfeld Building, at Bedford, which provides a bright and welcoming environment. Alongside good-sized classrooms there is an independent living flat and kitchen, which support the development of independence skills.
Students are taught in a small group setting (of up to 12 students) by a team of specialist teaching and support staff.
Student Success
Students receive a high level of support to promote their personal development and progress them into further education, independent living, volunteering or paid employment.
A number of our students have progressed into mainstream education in a variety of subjects following their Foundation programme, including: Animal Care, Business, Creative Art, Media, Performing Arts, and Sport.
