Kiera

I love photography because I enjoy being able to capture a moment in time in one image – and make someone wonder what was happening at that moment. I was given my dad’s old camera when I was 11 and started photographing animals and landscapes. From then on I used to ask for a new camera every Christmas as my interest grew!

My favourite part of the Photography study programme so far has been the portraiture work. We’ve been studying different face lighting and learning how to use the lighting equipment and coloured gels in the studio.

I also enjoyed our trip down to London where we visited the Tate Modern and then practised some street photography along the South Bank; this taught me to be more careful with how I frame pictures and think more about the composition.

People are a lot less judgemental at College compared to school and everyone has a shared interest, which helps. Our tutors are all very helpful and explain the work really nicely.

I plan to continue studying Photography either at university or here at College on the Higher National Certificate (HNC) course. Once fully trained, I’d love a career as a freelancer – perhaps in portrait or travel photography.
