Animal Management Foundation Degree (FdSc) (Part time)

This course will provide you with high quality, broad-based training in animal related biological sciences. You’ll study a mixture of practical, scientific, technical and business principles to prepare you for a career in animal management and give you a thorough understanding of the field.

The brand new Shuttleworth Zoological centre is a first of its kind within the state education system to accommodate a biosphere. A wide variety of species of taxa from Avian, Amphibian, Reptilian and Mammalian are housed in naturalistic enclosures enhancing student experience.

Need to know

Entry requirements
  • 32–48 UCAS tariff points including a relevant science area

OR

  • Animal Management BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma

OR

  • Equivalent Level 3 qualification, including A-Levels
  • Applicants should hold a GCSE in English and maths at Grade C/4 or above.

We welcome applications from mature students who will be invited in for an interview and considered individually on experience rather than qualifications.

What qualification will I gain?

Animal Management Foundation Degree (FdSc).

How will I be assessed?

Assessments include computer-based exercises, presentations, class exercises, examinations, practical reports and practical skills assessments.

Course content

What will I study?

Units you can study on the course will include:

  • animal health and behaviour
  • animal husbandry
  • animals – their environment, management and sustainability
  • business and the animal industry experience
  • business enterprise in the animal sector
  • investigating animals and their welfare
  • physiology and biotechnology
  • scientific methods for animal management.

Next steps

Course progression:

On successful completion of this course you can progress on to our top-up course to achieve an Animal Science BSc (Hons) Degree.

Career progression:

You could also progress to employment in a relevant field: recent graduates have obtained employment at zoos and animal parks, in animal and medical research, in administration and in the teaching of animal related subjects.
