Thea Roberts - Quantity Surveying HTQ
“Prior to studying Quantity Surveying HTQ I had no experience within the construction industry. However, I have gained a valuable insight into the construction environment, and the different sectors within this huge industry.
Studying quantity surveying has given me exposure to the industry, therefore I am able to apply this to my current job. For example, design work on Revit, the different types of contracts that are used within the industry; or health and safety standard which is vital to me, as I aim to obtain a CSCS card for managers and professionals. Studying has enabled me to make a link between what I am continuously learning at Bedford College then applying it to my role, that being a; ‘junior CAD and estimating assistant’ at Pretium Consult. Without the college’s network and their assistance with this company I wouldn’t be in the position I am in now, which I am very grateful for.
What I am learning at Bedford college intertwines effectively with my role at Pretium Consult. This is, enabling me to make strong links and I am confident my career will be successful within the construction industry.”

Hannah Rogers - Quantity Surveying HTQ
“Throughout my time at Bedford College studying the Quantity Surveying Higher Education course, I’ve gained invaluable skills and knowledge that have helped me progress both in my university application to ARU Chelmsford and in my full-time role as a surveyor. The course has provided practical experience that directly translates to my day-to-day work, such as estimating, measuring, and working on bills of quantities. These are key aspects I use regularly in the office, making the learning process highly applicable to real-life scenarios.
In particular, the Design Project module was essential in developing my skills, and the support from the teaching team played a crucial role in ensuring I successfully passed. While the teachers have provided guidance, it’s the hands-on approach and practical assignments that have truly prepared me for both university and my career.
Additionally, the course has provided valuable networking opportunities. Through my classmates, I’ve been able to connect with people who work for companies that my own firm collaborates with, helping to expand my professional network. This aspect of the course has been an unexpected bonus, further enriching my learning experience.
Overall, the course at Bedford College has played a significant part in helping me prepare for university and continues to support me in my professional work, and I look forward to advancing my studies at ARU Chelmsford.”
