This intensive course provides you with the basic skills and knowledge to begin a career in hairdressing.
The course covers all aspects of basic hairdressing, providing an internationally recognised City and Guilds qualification. On completion of the course, you will be qualified to work as a junior stylist in a salon or to be self-employed.
It is essential to have an excellent understanding of both written and spoken English for the course. A successful interview is essential.
It is desirable to hold GCSE 3 grade at A* to D or (3-9) in English and another academic subjects, although other work-related qualifications will be considered.

City and Guilds – Women’s Hairdressing – Level 2 Certificate
You will be assessed carrying out treatments on clients in a realistic salon environment in the college’s salons. The assessment criteria are set by City and Guilds and are verified by the course tutor/assessor. Following the delivery of theory topics, end of unit test are taken on the computer. There is an opportunity to gain a pass, merit or distinction in the practical assessments.
It is recommended to continue on to a second year of study where you will gain the Level 3 certificate in Hairdressing to advance your skills further.
Each course will lead to employment either in a salon or in self-employment.
Your course tutors will advise on your best progression route during your course.
It is essential that you continue to practice your new skills at home between lessons to ensure you have the skill set to achieve your assessments.
You will need to purchase a uniform and kit for practising your new skills at home (sourced by the college), these will be explained and more detail given during your information session/interview. Your commitment and attendance are linked to your success on this course.

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.Find out more
