All of the Level 2 courses are free. These courses last up to 16 weeks and you can start them at any point throughout the year, and complete them in your own free time.

What qualification will I gain?

You will gain: NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Coding.

How will I be assessed?

Online written assignments.

Course content

What will I study?

Unit 01: Understand the principles of coding

Unit 02: Understand terminology used in coding

Unit 03 Understand coding design principles

Unit 04: Understand the processes and practice of coding

Unit 05: Understand the importance of communication and project management in coding

The objectives of this qualification are to enable the learner to gain an understanding of:

  • principles of coding
  • the stages of the software development cycle
  • coding terminology and the fundamental principles of writing code
  • different coding types
  • best practices in coding • methods of testing and the DevOps process
  • effective communication and project management in coding

There are several next steps that you can take. You can go on to study another Level 2 distance learning course or a Level 3 one.

Alternatively, you could enrol on to our Access to Higher Education course or other further education courses (subject to entry requirements).

Please note that an administration charge of £100 will be charged if learners do not complete the course within the allocated 16 weeks.
