Sport Introductory (Level 1)

This course provides a foundation into the Sport and Leisure industry, covering ten different topics throughout the year. This provides the pathway and progression route to Level 2 Sport, Level 3 Sport (years 1 and 2) or the Personal Training course.

3 GCSEs 9-1.

What qualification will I gain?

Level 1 BTEC Introductory Diploma in Vocational Studies (Sport).

How will I be assessed?

We ensure our assessment methods are varied and accommodating to all. Main assessments will be through means of; posters, written descriptions, powerpoint presentations and practical assessments.

Course content

What will I study?

Over the course of the year students will cover topics which will help with transferable skills as well as specific sports-based learning.

These units are as follows:

  • Being organised
  • Developing a personal progression plan
  • Working with others
  • Researching a topic
  • Contributing to running a sports event
  • Playing sport
  • Training for fitness
  • Assisting in a sports activity
  • How exercise affects the body
  • Coaching skills in sport.

Funding Information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. Whether you need to pay a fee and how much will be dependent on the programme you choose to study. For more information call 0345 658 8990.
