Overview

Psychology & Crime Foundation Degree (FdA) (Full time)

This course covers the study of psychology, criminology and law, with a specific focus on aspects of psychology relevant to understanding people’s behaviour in groups, and the development of an individual through childhood, adolescence and maturity. A part-time route consisting of studying two units per year is also available in some circumstances. Entry requirements

• 32-48 UCAS Points from a Level 3 course (e.g. A-Level, Level 3 Diploma, BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or equivalent).

• English GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above OR Level 2 equivalent.

• Maths GCSE at grade C/grade 4 or above OR Level 2 equivalent is desirable.

We welcome applicants who may not meet the above entry requirements but have relevant work experience within the industry. You may be asked to attend an interview to discuss the requirements of the course.

You will also need to undertake a paid or voluntary placement in a relevant setting related to psychology and crime (minimum one day per week) for the duration of the course. You should ideally arrange your own placement but the course team will also be able to assist you with this.

Course content

During this course you will study a range of units including: foundation to psychology; comparative youth justice; work-based learning; study skills and social research; social and lifespan development; professional research and development in psychology; crime and social control.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed through written assignments, exams, presentations, reflective diaries and a work-based
learning qualification.

Further study and career options

Following successful completion of your Foundation Degree, you will be able to progress (top-up) to the third year of an Honours degree course to achieve a Psychology & Criminal Behaviour BA (Hons) – there are also other top-up options available.
