This Music Performance &  Production study programme will introduce you to practical skills in performance, sound recording, composing and music technology including software based production.

Need to know

Entry requirements

To begin this study programme you will need…

  • 4 GCSEs (or equivalents) at a 4 or above including English.

or

a (Diploma/Extended Certificate) Level 2 Music qualification at a Merit or higher.

Performance students must be competent instrumentalists and be able to demonstrate this at audition.

Production students must be able to demonstrate instrumental ability and/or provide evidence of previous music production work.

Course content

At Bedford campus, you will have the choice of 2 pathways:

  • Performance focuses on instrumental skills and developing live performance ability in groups with other musicians
  • Production focuses on developing sequencing and software skills for creating music using Logic X as well as using audio technology to record and mix in the studios. You can find out more about these options at one of our open days or during your interview.

Next steps

Course progression:

On successful completion of this study programme (and achieving Functional Skills at Level 2) you could progress on to studying for a Foundation Degree or a BA (Hons) in a related subject.

Alternatively you could progress into employment in the music industry.

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
