Introduction to Trainer Skills (formerly Train the Trainer) City & Guilds Level 2 (intensive)

This City and Guilds Level 2 Introduction to Trainer Skills course provides participants with a sound introduction to the concepts of a systematic approach to training. This course is designed to be delivered over two days, and is ideal for those who train others in organisations wanting to develop their presentation skills. It is an introductory course so no previous teaching experience or access to teaching/training is needed. Applicants do not need to be in a teaching/training role to do this course.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course and it is suitable for new and experienced trainers from any discipline, and individuals who are called upon to deliver trainer as part of a wider role.

Course content

This qualification allows learners to learn, develop and practice the skills required for employment and/or career progression as a trainer in different sectors. The course focuses on the training cycle which is then applied to the planning and delivery of a session.

The course is aimed at learners who wish to gain an understanding of how to plan and deliver a learning session and incorporate assessment. It is also designed to develop learners confidence in using these skills. The course is assessed on the candidates ability to:
• Planning a training session
• Delivering a training session

The course also covers:
• Setting ground rules
• Use of icebreakers
• The learning environment
• Training resources
• Gaining and maintaining attention
• Motivation
• Assessment

Assessment methods

The course is assessed via a multiple-choice test, course work and delivery of a micro-teach session. This course is for learners who may be looking to progress into a career in teaching or training.

Each participant must deliver a 10 or 15 minute training session, and take a multiple choice quiz on day two. Each session must be observed by the tutor. The presentation will need to be prepared overnight after day 1 ready for delivery on day 2.

Further study and career options

This course has been developed in conjunction with City & Guilds and Ofqual and is the latest and most up to date qualification in the education and training field. Learners who complete this course can then progress to the Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

This is an introductory course that will improve your confidence and practice if you are already teaching or wish to go into teaching. In order to become a qualified lecturer or trainer a further course of study would be needed, such as the Certificate in Education or PGCE (CertEd/PGCE).

This course runs as an intensive two-day course. Please note, the current fee of £50 per person is due to the availability of Local Flexibility funding.

These courses tend to run on request when enough people show an interest and register. Therefore, there may not be a future course listed here at the moment. The starting place for most people looking to train as a teacher is our Level 3 Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS). These courses run more frequently and you will find future Level 3 courses advertised on our website.

Funding Information

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
