This course is for seasoned gardeners, either keen amateurs or those looking for a career change. It is classroom based and will give you in-depth knowledge regarding gardening surveying and design principles

Entry requirements

Whilst there are no formal pre-requisites, it is strongly recommended that you have obtained the Principles of Garden Planning, Establishment and Maintenance RHS Level 2 Certificate, and Propagation & Development RHS Level 2 Certificate or equivalent before you commence on this course.

What qualification will I gain?
  • RHS Level 3 Certificate in
  • Principles of Garden Planning, Construction & Planting
How will I be assessed?

Each unit will be assessed by a separate written examination covering all learning outcomes specified in the unit. Examinations are taken at the end of the course on dates set by the RHS. There will be two exams in February, and two in June.

Course content

What will I learn?
  • Understanding garden survey techniques and design principles (4 Credits)
  • Understanding the selection and use of landscaping elements in the garden (4 Credits)
  • Understanding the setting out and construction of landscaping elements in the garden (4 Credits)
  • Understanding a range of specialist elements in the establishment of garden and urban plantings (3 Credits)
