Design, Surveying & Planning for Construction & The Built Environment (T Level)

T Levels are two-year courses in England that can be studied by 16-18 year olds after finishing their GCSEs.

This Technical Qualification has been developed in consultation with employers in the construction industry to ensure you learn the skills and behaviours that will give you the best opportunity to be successful when applying for work. The content is split into a core component that is common to all Construction T Levels, and an occupational specialism -Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs grades 9-4 including English and Maths OR similar at Level 2 including English and Maths.

T Level courses are for 16-19 year olds who have completed their GCSEs.

The core component provides a broad understanding of the construction industry and covers the following construction-related topics:

  • health and safety
  • science

  • construction and the built environment industry
  • sustainability
  • measurement
  • building technology
  • information and data
  • relationship management
  • digital technology
  • project management

Occupational Specialism – Surveying and Design for Construction and the Built Environment

  • measuring the built environment
  • analysing the built environment
  • designing the built environment
  • verifying the delivery of the built environment

Written exams and externally assessed projects.

Further study and career options

Achieving this Technical Qualification will give you an advantage when applying for a job in construction in your chosen occupational specialism or when progressing to further study in construction, such as a university degree or higher Apprenticeship.
