Competence in the Safe and Responsible Use of Veterinary Medicines City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate

The City & Guilds qualification aims to ensure that the stockperson understands how to: Administer, store and dispose of veterinary medicines competently and humanely in accordance with the animal health plan, understand the need for safe and responsible use and storage of veterinary medicines.

Course species that are covered:

  • 901 Farmed Livestock (Cattle)
  • 903 Farmed Livestock (Sheep and Goats)

Course information

Need to know

Entry requirements

You must be 16 years old or over to undertake this course.

As this is an industry competency award, you will be expected to have worked with farm livestock and understand welfare, handling and safety considerations.

What qualification will I gain?

City & Guilds Level 2 Certificate of Competence in the Safe & Responsible Use of Veterinary Medicines

Assessment

Training will take one day to complete with an integrated assessment which lasts one hour.

  • The responsible use of veterinary medicines
  • Signs of health and ill health
  • Zoonosis
  • Storage
  • Transport
  • Veterinary medicine authorization and legal categories
  • Label Interpretation
  • Administration of veterinary medicines
  • Health and safety
  • Animal welfare
  • Operator safety
  • Keeping equipment clean and safe
  • Record keeping
  • Disposal and the environment

You will be offered the correct PPE for this course (with the exception of safety footwear, which must be supplied by the trainee/candidate). Robust outdoor clothing should be worn, ideally coveralls or a boiler suit.

Any other equipment required will be listed on the joining instructions.  These will be emailed to you a few weeks before the course is due to start – please contact us to confirm you have the required items.
