Care NCFE CACHE Level 2 DiplomaThe aim of this qualification is to support learners to develop the knowledge and skills required to work in a range of clinical healthcare support settings and in health and adult care environments.
Workbased Learning allows students the benefits of gaining a recognised qualification whilst working. All students will have access to an e-portfolio with supporting resources and online lessons as well as the benefit of a one to one allocated assessor on hand to support your learning journey.

Entry requirements
Essential:
Learners must be aged 16 or over.
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a care setting to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
What qualification will I gain?
NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Care.
How will I be assessed?
All units will be internally assessed. Assessment enables the learner’s workplace practice to provide evidence for individual units, as well as the whole qualification through a portfolio of evidence. Methods of assessment could include:
- direct observation of learner by Assessor
- witness evidence when directed by the sector skills assessment strategy
- professional discussion
- reflection on own practice in real work environments
- written assignments
- learner’s own work products
All assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit the individual needs of the learner
Knowledge activities/assignments will be completed for each topic area – this will show your knowledge and understanding. Learners will complete written reflections on their own practice to show understanding of how knowledge is used effectively in the workplace.
Practical assessments will need to be completed, where learners will demonstrate their role and responsibility – these will be observations completed by an assessor. Employers will need to agree that the observations can take place in the workplace.
All records of learning will be uploaded and stored using an e-portfolio and online system.
Course content
What will I study?
The mandatory units cover core competencies, while the optional units allow learners to choose from a variety of areas to tailor the qualification to their needs and interests, and to reflect the context of their work.
It covers a wide range of areas including dementia awareness, mental health and well-being, supporting individuals with their physical and emotional care, daily living needs and healthcare procedures.
The content is also aligned with the knowledge and skills required for the Adult Care Worker and Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standards.
You will study:
Learners will complete 9 mandatory units, and a variety of optional units dependant on job role:
- Communication in Care settings
- Handle Information in care settings
- Personal development in care settings
- Implement person-centred approaches in care settings
- Equality and inclusion in care settings
- Responsibilities of a care worker
- Duty of care
- Safeguarding and protection in care settings
Optional Units offer a range of topics for example: principles of infection control, understanding mental health, mobility, personal hygiene, medication, care for the elderly, dementia, individual needs, end of life care, and learning and communication needs.
There are a large number of units which will allow the learner to tailor the qualification to their interests and roles.
- Learners must achieve a minimum of 46 credits to gain this qualification.
- Learners must achieve 24 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 22 credits from the optional units.
Next steps
Upon successful completion of this qualification learners can enter the workforce as a qualified Level 2 Care Worker or continue to study for a Level 3.
Course progression:
The content of the qualification links with the knowledge and skills required for the Adult Care Worker and Healthcare Support Worker apprenticeship standards.
Upon completion, learners can enter either the adult care or health workforces.
The content is applicable to a variety of roles, including:
- adult care worker
- healthcare assistant/support worker
- personal assistant.
Units can also be used for continuing professional development in the learner’s chosen field.
Career progressions:
This qualification allows a learner to be occupationally competent at Level 2 as a qualified Level 2 Adult Care Worker.

Funding Information
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
