Barbering Intermediate (Level 2)

The VTCT Level 2 Barbering Diploma will provide you with an excellent foundation to your barbering training.

You will study the basic elements of being a barber. This Level 2 course will provide you with the knowledge and skills for working in the barbering industry, learning the latest techniques as well as the knowledge to work in the sector.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs grades 9-3 OR equivalent.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed through a variety of methods for each unit. There are multiple choice exams on the course. Within each unit you will complete written tasks, and complete a set number of practical assessments.

Course content

What will I study?

This course will give you an introduction to several different aspects of working in the barbering sector.

The units that you will cover are:

  • Health and Safety
  • Cutting Hair
  • Cutting Facial Hair
  • Shampoo and Condition
  • Client Consultation
  • Salon Reception
  • Creating basic patterns in hair

All lessons take place at the main Kingsway campus in Dunstable.

How will I learn?

You will learn through a mix of theory and practical sessions, which will take place in our modern salon.

WHAT ADDITIONAL WORK OUTSIDE OF COLLEGE WILL I NEED TO DO?

You will be given short tasks to complete each week, which form the basis for your coursework.

Level 3 Barbering, Level 2 Hair and Media Make-Up, Apprenticeships.

Working in a salon/spa, setting up a business, hair and beauty retail.

Equipment and other costs:

You will need to purchase a kit. This will be used in all of your practical sessions, and is yours to keep at the end of the course. You will also be required to purchase a t-shirt and to wear suitable black trousers and black shoes for each lesson.

We have a uniform shop which also contains a lot of optional items; you will be provided a link for this at the beginning of your course.

DO I NEED TO FIND A WORK PLACEMENT? DO I NEED A DBS?

No, there is no work placement attached, but we will give opportunities throughout the course to put yourself into a real world scenario.
