Access to Higher Education in Humanities & Social Science

Our Access to Higher Education courses build the skills, knowledge and confidence you need to progress on to higher education in the subject area you’re interested in. They are recognised as entry qualifications by universities across the UK.

This course has a range of subjects with a wide range of progression options so it is a really good choice if you want to keep your university options open. Then our Access courses maybe for you. Our Access to Higher Education course is the equivalent to three A’ levels and can be completed in one year.

This is a one year Level 3 intensive course aimed at mature students (19+) without the standard qualifications to enter higher education. You will focus on developing core skills and knowledge in Humanities and Social Sciences.

Desirable: GCSE Maths and English or Functional Skills Level 2

What qualification will I gain?

Access to HE Diploma Humanities and Social Science Cava Level 3.

How will I be assessed?

This course will be assessed by:

A variety of Assessments: exams, presentations, portfolios, essays, reports.

  • Crime and Media
  • The powers of the Police
  • The English Legal system
  • Civil Rights
  • Social and Political movements
  • Crime and Deviance

All students study a Research project and Academic study skills units NB: units subject to change.

Next steps

Course progression:  University courses in a wide range of different subjects, such as: English Literature, English Language, History, Sociology, Social Work, Criminology, Journalism, Law and Politics.

Career progression: Through a degree this course can be the route into a wide range of careers including: Teaching, Legal Professions, Social Work, Psychologist.

Funding information:

If you are aged 19 or over, you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost more affordable.

Find out more about your payment options here If you complete one of our Access to Higher Education courses and use an Advanced Learner Loan to pay for your tuition fee, the Student Loans Company will write off the balance on the Advanced Learner Loan if you then go on to complete an undergraduate course.
