This Autumn term, both Tresham College Corby and Tresham College Kettering have seen huge turnouts for The Bedford College Group’s annual Recruitment, Skills and Careers Events.

The Bedford College Group hosts these events in partnership with Jobcentre Plus, Workpays, and North Northamptonshire Council. As the largest provider of Further Education within the South Midlands, The Group and its campuses are ideally equipped to host a plethora of community and employer partners to not only benefit students, but also employers and members of the wider public.

These events bring together employers, training providers, and support organisations, giving school-leavers, career changers, and jobseekers the chance to explore opportunities across healthcare, engineering, construction, retail, hospitality, policing, and more.

At the events, attendees can access live job vacancies, new career opportunities, as well as guidance on T Levels, apprenticeships, adult learning, and professional qualifications, helping them plan their next steps.

At the Tresham College Corby event alone, participating organisations included Weetabix, Tata Steel, Currys, Northants Police, Newcold, Avon, Oundle School, Serve, Busy Bees, Take Me Taxis and The Best Connection, alongside national and local partners such as the Civil Service, National Careers Service, and North Northamptonshire Council.

Similarly at the Tresham College Kettering event, more than 400 students and local jobseekers were in attendance, alongside over 50 local employers.

Seminars and employer-led talks have now been introduced as part of these events, with the first at the Tresham College Kettering event. Employers leading talks included Morrisons, Eurokey and Navara Oat Milling. Talks like these give attendees the chance to hear directly from businesses about local opportunities, workplace expectations, and career development alongside the usual format of stalls within the atrium.

Nuala Whelan, DWP South Midlands Senior Employer Partnership Lead, added: “These events are an amazing combination of employers and community partners coming together to tackle ‘NEETs’ in this area, people not in employment, education or training. We are extremely grateful to Tresham College and the many employers for helping us get local people on track for the next stage of their careers.”

Cheryl Needham, Head of Adult & Community Learning at Tresham College, also reflected on the continued growth and community impact of the events: “We are thrilled to be starting seminars and talks by employers for these events, discussing all things from vacancies to career progression. It provides even more depth and helps open up the conversation for attendees to hear more information about local employers and opportunities. We’re always trying to develop and continuously improve these events, and on behalf of Tresham College, we would like to thank all attendees, employers and community partners for consistently making these events a huge success.”

The Bedford College Group’s mission is to help our communities flourish through collaborative partnerships, teamwork and a shared vision. Mutually beneficial events like these demonstrate local community teamwork which enables local individuals to flourish by progressing to the next stage of their career.
