Bedford College has officially launched a Digital Innovation Hub, a cutting-edge facility designed to equip students with skills for careers in the technology sector.
The hub, based at the Bedford College campus, is the second hub to opened across the Group to provide state-of-the-art digital resources, including industry-standard software and the latest technology to support learning in cybersecurity, programming, artificial intelligence, and digital design. Staff and students can experiment with equipment such as VR headsets and incorporate it into their learning. It has been developed in partnership with local employers to ensure students gain relevant, in-demand skills.

Centre for Innovation
The launch event brought together education leaders, industry professionals, and local businesses, highlighting the importance of digital skills in today’s economy. The new hub will serve as a centre for innovation, helping students develop the expertise needed to thrive in digital industries.
The Hub has been developed in collaboration with Extreme Networks , who played a vital role in establishing the network infrastructure, ensuring seamless connectivity across the Hub. Representatives from the company included Dahwood Ahmed (Regional Director) and Luke Wallace (Head of Education), alongside our own staff and Computing & IT students.
Manager of the Hub Adam Godfrey said:
“One of the problems that a lot of schools and colleges have is spending a lot of money on buying equipment and [then] getting teachers to use it, and it having an impact on teaching. Training them on how to use it isn’t enough; we’ve got to follow that through, and that’s what this space is intended to do.”
Robin Webber-Jones, Executive Director of Curriculum at The Bedford College Group, emphasised the impact of the facility.
“The Digital Innovation Hub is a vital step forward in preparing our staff to teach for the future workforce. By working closely with employers, we can ensure our students gain the right skills to meet industry demand, strengthening the local and regional economy.”
Supporting students and businesses with the skills needed for the modern workplace
This investment showcases The Bedford College Group’s ongoing approach to supporting students and businesses with the skills needed for the modern workplace. In turn, this directly addresses the skills gap.
It is anticipated that this Digital Innovation Hub will continue to grow and change, following the initial hub opening at Tresham College in Kettering in November and the forthcoming hub opening in Central Bedfordshire College featuring new technologies and digital developments.
