Courses for everyone

At The Bedford College Group, we offer a wide range of courses to suit all learning needs and career aspirations. Courses range from Level 1 to Level 6, helping students progress from foundation levels to more advanced qualifications.

Here is a breakdown of the levels we offer…

Level 1

Equivalent level: GCSEs (3-1)

Level 1 courses are ideal for students who need additional support with their studies before progressing to higher levels. These courses focus on developing fundamental skills in literacy, numeracy, and vocational subjects.

Who is it for?

Students who may have left school with limited qualifications and need to build confidence before moving on to Level 2 study or an apprenticeship.

Level 2

Equivalent level: GCSEs (9-4)

Level 2 courses provide a step up from foundation learning and offer more specialised knowledge in various subjects. They are equivalent to GCSEs and provide a pathway to Level 3 qualifications or employment.

Who is it for?

Students who have completed Level 1 or achieved GCSEs at grades 9-4 and want to progress further in their studies or gain practical skills for employment.

Level 3 (and T Levels)

Equivalent level: A-Levels

Level 3 courses are designed to prepare students for higher education, apprenticeships, or employment.

T Levels

T Levels are two-year courses that provide a mixture of classroom learning and industry placements. Equivalent to three A-Levels, T Levels focus on vocational training and are designed with employers to ensure students gain the skills needed for the workforce.

Who is it for?

Students who have successfully completed Level 2 qualifications and wish to move on to university, an apprenticeship, or skilled employment.

Level 4

Equivalent level: Higher National Certificates (HNCs)

Level 4 is the first stage of higher education, providing advanced knowledge in specialist areas.

Who is it for?

Students who have completed Level 3 and want to continue their studies without committing to a full degree, or professionals seeking to upskill.

Level 4/5 (HTQs and Foundation Degrees)

HTQs

Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) are industry-recognised qualifications at Level 4/5 that provide practical and academic skills for specific sectors. Designed as an alternative to traditional degrees, HTQs offer a hands-on approach with strong employer engagement.

Foundation Degrees

Foundation degrees are qualifications equivalent to the first two years of a full Honours degree and have been developed with employers to advance skills in a specific industry sector.

Level 5

Equivalent level: Higher National Diploma (HNDs)

Level 5 qualifications are more advanced and equivalent to the second year of a university degree. They provide specialist knowledge and skills for specific industries.

Who is it for?

Students looking to progress to a full degree or enter high-skilled employment in fields such as business, engineering, and health sciences.

Level 6

Equivalent level: BA and BSc Top-Ups (from HND/HTQ or Foundation Degree)

Our Level 6 courses enable students in some subject areas to “top-up” and achieve an honours degree qualification following completion of their Level 5 HND, HTQ or Foundation Degree.

Who is it for?

Students who have completed Level 5 and wish to gain a full university degree or specialist training for high-level careers.
