Lewis Sharp -HND Mechanical Engineering
“I have studied HNC and HND in mechanical engineering and it has helped me develop existing skills and learnt new skills. I’ve studied various topics along the higher education programme. Some of the topics have been relevant to the role I currently have which is a mechanical fitter and the others have given me a greater understanding of mechanical engineering which will be used later in my career. Some of the topics that have been widely beneficial to my day job include pneumatics and hydraulics, CAD and mechanical principles.
In pneumatic and hydraulics, it helped me understand the pneumatic drawings better in the workplace and also put forward suggestions on how to make the drawings better and easier to understand for other employees. Alongside with the CAD unit I know how the software works so I can transfer the skills I’ve learnt for a particular software to other software. This has proved beneficial to the workplace as it makes it easier to show what modifications need to be made if a design is wrong.”
