YMCA Awards Level 2 Diploma in Exercise and Fitness: Gym InstructorThis course runs on Thursday evenings so you can study alongside work commitments. Most evenings will be a combination of classroom activities and a session in our fantastic Matrix gym.
Industry-standard facilities will ensure you develop your skills on the same high-quality machines found in leading fitness centres. From strength and resistance stations to advanced cardiovascular equipment, Matrix supports safe, effective, and varied workouts.
If you have ambitions to work with clients in the fitness sector, this is the course for you. A Level 2 course is a great entry point and gives you the option of working in the industry while building your client base or taking your studies forward with a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification– and we run that course too!

This qualification meets industry requirements to become a Gym Instructor
The purpose of this qualification is to enable learners to:
- Consult and assess clients’ needs and support them towards their health and fitness goals.
- Plan, deliver and evaluate gym-based exercise to support individuals (one-to-one) and small groups.
Next steps
In passing this course, you will be able to work as an employee in this sector. Employment in this sector is extremely varied; from your local gym to cruise ships to the armed services. This course can take you around the world!
