This qualification enables learners to develop knowledge and understanding of caring for individuals with dementia. Successful completion of the units will allow learners to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of dementia and its effects including the types of dementia, diagnosis, person-centred approaches, communication in dementia care and the use of medication to support individuals with dementia.

*Level 3 courses are free if learners meet the criteria:

  • Do not hold a Level 3 or higher qualification
  • Are over 19 on 1st August
  • Have lived in UK for 3 years or more

If they don’t meet the criteria they may be able to get a Government loan.

Entry requirements

NCFE Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Dementia Care to be completed prior to starting Level 3.

  1. Principles of understanding dementia
  2. Understand the use of person-centred approaches to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia
  3. Principles of communication and interaction in dementia care and support
  4. Principles of supporting positive interaction, occupation and activity in dementia care
  5. Principles of understanding equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care and support
  6. Understand how individuals with dementia can be supported to exercise rights and choices
  7. Principles of administration of medication to individuals with dementia

Funding Information

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over and want to achieve your first full Level 3 qualification (equivalent to an advanced technical certificate, diploma or A-Levels) then this course is free, as part of the National Skills Fund.

If you are aged 24 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
