Travel & Tourism Intermediate (Level 2)

This study programme will provide you with the knowledge and skills required for working in a junior position within the travel and tourism industry. You will develop your selling and communication skills and learn about tourist information services, worldwide travel destinations and the structure of the travel industry. The study programme will give you a good insight into the travel and tourism industry and provide you with the opportunity to progress further, either within education or through industry employment.

Entry requirements

To begin this study programme you will need:

Duration: 1 year

3 GCSEs grades 9-3 OR equivalent qualification at Level 1

Duration: 2 years

3 GCSEs grades 9-1 and a keen interest in the subject OR equivalent qualification at Level E3. Other relevant levels of qualification or experience will be considered.

What qualification will I gain?

Travel and Tourism NCFE Level 2 Diploma.

How will I be assessed?

The majority of the units studied will be assessed through the completion of coursework, with some units being assessed by online multiple choice tests or paper-based short answer tests. All assessments on the course will be externally set and verified by City & Guilds.

What will I study?

The study programme will provide you with an understanding of travel & tourism through the studying of a range of topics.

  • Customer service and selling skills for travel & tourism
  • Interpersonal skills for the travel & tourism workplace

  • Visitor Attractions
  • Resort Representatives
  • Introduction to the Cruise Industry
  • Tour operations
  • Promotional materials for travel & tourism
  • Travel planning

English and maths:
If you don’t already have GCSE English and maths grade 9-4, we will work with you to help you develop your maths and English skills.

Work experience

Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills 

Additional vocational learning and qualifications: 

You will have the opportunity to take part in various trips across the UK to help you complete elements of your coursework. In previous years we have visited major London attractions, such as the London Eye and London Dungeon. We have also visited Drayton Manor and Woburn Safari Park.

Course progression:

On successful completion of this study programme you can progress on to the Travel & Tourism Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma.

Course progression:

You can also seek employment in the travel and tourism industry as a trainee or apprentice at a travel agency, tour operator or visitor attraction.

Additional information

There will be an additional £250 fee to cover the cost of trips and uniform. You will be required to wear a uniform for a minimum of one day a week. You will be required to provide your own pens, paper and folders.

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
