Supporting Children and Young People’s Speech, Language and Communication CACHE Level 3 Award

This course is designed for those who work with children. It will help you to develop the knowledge and the skills necessary for effective communication and how to identify development needs and support for individuals. Speech, language and communication skills are essential for learning and social and emotional wellbeing, therefore it’s important for you to understand what typical development looks like for different age groups.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • A Level 2 Early Years, Children and Young People or Teaching Assistant qualification
  • To be working, volunteering or on practical placement in order to show competence in both knowledge and skills.
Course content

This course aims to develop your knowledge and skills to:

  • Understand the importance of speech, language and communication
  • Identify the signs of those children who are experiencing difficulties
  • Promote speech, language and communication development
  • Explore ways to support children and young people who have speech, language and communication need (SLCN).

 

It also provides opportunities for specialist learning for working in a wide range of settings.

Mandatory units

  • Support speech, language and communication development
  • Support children and young people’s speech, language and communication skills

Optional units

  • Support positive practice with children and young people with speech, language and communication needs
  • Work with parents, families and carers to support their children’s speech, language and communication development
  • Understand the speech, language and communication needs of children and young people with behavioural, social and emotional difficulties
  • Support the speech, language and communication development of children who are learning more than one language
Qualification

CACHE Level 3 Award -Supporting Children and Young People’s Speech, Language and Communication.

Assessment methods

You will be assessed by your tutor or assessor through a range of methods. This could include a portfolio of evidence, written assignments, course work, direct observation of practice or a task set by the awarding body, CACHE.

Additional information

There is an additional cost of £20 for a textbook.

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
