Entry requirements

Essential:

You must be 16 years old or over to undertake this course. As this is a short and very intense course, you must be able to proficiently operate hand held machinery used during the training.

What qualification will I gain?

NPTC Level 2 Certificate of competence in the safe use of Handheld Hedge Cutters.

 

Course content

What will I study?

Area covered:

You will study the underpinning knowledge essential for correctly maintaining and safely operating a handheld hedge trimmer and receive tuition in how to maintain and safely operate a handheld hedge trimmer.

The following areas are covered during the course:

  • Know how to carry out a risk assessment
  • Know the health and safety legislation that underpins hand held hedge trimmer operations
  • Know the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for hand held hedge trimmer operations
  • Know the health and safety features of the equipment being used
  • Know that there are different types of hedge trimmer
  • Understand hedge types and growth habits
  • Know how to maintain the hedge trimmer
  • Know how to prepare work area
  • Know how to operate a hedge trimmer
  • Know how to clean, store and transport equipment safely and appropriately.
How will I be assessed?

This qualification can be examined by the Trainer who delivered the training. Training on day one and assessment on another date (usually the following day). Assessment can take 1.5 – 3.00 hours and will be at the venue at which you trained.

There is an option for this course to be trained in the workplace, please contact our business development team to discuss.

Additional information

You will be offered the correct PPE for this course (with the exception of safety footwear, which must be supplied by the trainee/candidate). Robust outdoor clothing should be worn, ideally coveralls or a boiler suit.
