Principles of Plant Growth & Development RHS Level 2 CertificateThis course allows learners to develop a level of plant knowledge deemed essential by horticultural industries. It equips learners with a knowledge and understanding to progress to employment within the horticultural sector. It assesses the knowledge of scientific principles underpinning horticultural practices and supports career development for those already working in the profession.
Shuttleworth College’s horticultural facilities allow demonstration to learners of the principles described in lessons. Our staff are experienced within the Horticultural field.

Entry requirements
Practical gardening experience and basic English and Maths skills to complete the examinations. (Desirable).
What qualification will I gain?
RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Horticulture.
How will I be assessed?
This qualification is entirely assessed by unseen written exams -one for each unit in which all topics will be covered.

Next steps
Course progression:
You can progress either to the Level 2 practical unit, or when both the Principles of Horticulture and Practical sections are achieve, you can then progress to the Level 3 units.
Career progression:
The qualification could lead to a career change or progression within the work place.
Additional information
Learners will need a notebook and pen and methods of recording information seen on visits – this may be done with a camera phone.
Combining the Level 2 Theory and Practical qualification gives you the RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture.
If you are taking the former Diploma course at Level 2 this course can be used to replace the Plant Growth section.

Funding Information
The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
