Overview

Prevention & Control of Infection NCFE Level 2 Certificate (Distance Learning)

You will gain an understanding of the chain of infection and look at how infection is caused and how it can spread, explore the importance of personal hygiene and effective hand washing and the principles of using personal protective equipment. You will gain an understanding of how important cleaning, decontamination, sterilisation and waste management is within the healthcare setting and also the regulations, policies, procedures, risk assessments and roles and responsibilities in relation to infection control.

All of the Level 2 courses are free. These courses last up to 16 weeks and you can start them at any point throughout the year, and complete them in your own free time.

Course content

What will I study?

The units you will study are:

  • Principles of the causes and spread of infection in health care settings
  • Principles of the importance of personal hygiene and health in the prevention and control of infection in health care settings
  • Principles of decontamination, cleaning and waste management in health care settings
  • Principles of infection prevention and control in a health care setting

There are several next steps that you can take. You can go on to study another Level 2 distance learning course or a Level 3 one. Alternatively, you could enrol on to our Access to Higher Education course or other further education courses (subject to entry requirements).

Please note that an administration charge of £100 will be charged if learners do not complete the course within the allocated 16 weeks.
