Level 1 Award in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care

This qualification will enable learners to develop a basic knowledge of the adult social care sector and is aimed at those learners who wish to explore roles in this field.

Level 1 Certificate in Caring for Children

This qualification is designed to stimulate interest and encourage the learners’ understanding of the skills and knowledge needed to care for young children. It is aimed at a range of learners, including young people needing to develop life skills as well as those who are thinking of working in childcare.

3 GCSEs 9-1.

What qualification will I gain?

Level 1 Award in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care / Level 1 Certificate in Caring for Children.

How will I be assessed?

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods which could include: written assignments or tasks* such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams or setting up an information board.

Coursework throughout the year with Achieved/ Not yet Achieved criteria.

Preparing to work in Adult Social Care:

  • Introduction to the adult social care sector.
  • Introduction to the values and principles of adult social care
  • Awareness of the sills and attitudes needed to work in adult social care.
  • Awareness of communication in adult social care
  • Awareness of the roles and responsibilities of the adult social care worker.

What skills will I gain?

  • To be able to understand the skills and attitudes essential to work in adult social care
  • Be able to identify own skills and attitudes essential to work in adult social care
  • Be able to identify own skills and attitudes that require further development.

Caring for Children:

  • Musical activities for young children
  • Craft activities for young children
  • Healthy Living
  • Healthy eating for families
  • Practical health and safety when with young children
  • Sharing learning experiences with children
  • Finding out about Forest Schools
  • Preparing for your next steps
  • Supporting babies to play
  • Understanding learning and development through play

Next steps

Preparing to work in Adult Social Care:

Course progression:

  • Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner
  • Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social care

Career progression:

Although the qualification does not qualify learners to work in adult social care it does support them in preparing for the “next steps” either in training or moving towards the world of work.

Funding Information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. You can also pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
