Practical Horticulture RHS Level 2 Certificate

The qualification provides learners with the breath of horticultural knowledge and skills required to carry out routine tasks proficiently in a variety of contexts, it supports progression into employment within areas of the horticultural industries (such as professional gardening, landscaping, plant production and garden retail), as well as supporting learning in entry level roles in the early stages of a horticultural career. It also meets the needs of amateur gardeners.

A two Hectare Garden plus a potting shed provides an area to practice skills that have been taught on the course. Staff with experience within the Horticultural industry provide practical information in order to complete the course.

Entry requirements

A knowledge of basic garden skills (although most of these will be taught on the course) and basic English and maths are desirable.

Qualification

RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture.

Assessment methods

A range of assessment methods will be used to assess this qualification. They include formative assessment by tutors, and a range of summative short answer tests as well as two direct observation sessions by RHS assessors. One in Spring and one at the end of the course.

Further study and career options

Course progression:

Either level 2 principle qualifications or if this has been achieved Level 3 RHS Theory and Practical qualifications.

Areas include professional gardening, landscaping, plant production and garden retail

Additional information

You will need to wear Steel toe capped boots or shoes, have a pair of gardening gloves and a notebook and pen. Using a camera phone can be useful (not essential) when revising especially Plant identification.

Funding Information

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
