This qualification is for those wanting to enter the Plumbing & Heating industry.  It gives you the opportunity to progress your skills and knowledge of more advanced Plumbing & Heating and gives you the opportunity to progress onto further Plumbing & Heating qualifications or an apprenticeship.

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs Grade 9-3 including Maths and English or an equivalent qualification at Level 1.

What qualification will I gain?

  • City & Guilds Level 2 Technical Certificate in Plumbing (8202-25)
  • English and maths qualifications if required

How will I be assessed?

  • Your Practical skills will be assessed via Synoptic Assignment.
  • Your Knowledge will be assessed by Theory Exam.
  • The timing of these assessments is set nationally by City and Guilds.

Course content

What will I study?

This study programme is designed to provide the point of entry into industry for those wishing to study Plumbing and Heating on a Full Time basis.

It combines the practical skills required to complete plumbing tasks, and the knowledge required to design and maintain basic Plumbing systems.

Throughout the study programme you will continue to develop your skills in English and maths to assist you with progression to further study or employment.

You will study many aspects of plumbing including:

  • Health and Safety
  • Cold water
  • Hot water
  • Plumbing processes
  • Drainage
  • Electrical & Scientific principles
  • Central heating
  • You will be required to undertake a period of work experience as part of the programme.
  • Personal development skills, study skills and employability skills.

Where possible, trips will be arranged to allow learners to see real world plumbing practices, understand progression opportunities and meet with manufacturers in the sector.

Next steps

You might progress onto further study or an apprenticeship.

Additional information

An equipment list will be provided prior to the start of the programme and includes personal protective equipment and textbooks. There will be the opportunity to go on trips as part of the course.

Funding Information

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. Whether you need to pay a fee and how much will be dependent on the programme you choose to study. For more information call 0345 658 8990.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. You can also pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
