Playwork CACHE Level 3 Diploma

This qualification provides in-depth information about the role of the level 3 playworker.

The diploma covers the knowledge and skills needed when working unsupervised and requires the learner to demonstrate these in the workplace.

It is aimed at experienced playworkers who have an appreciation of the
playwork principles and practice.

Workbased Learning allows students the benefits of gaining a recognised qualification whilst working. All students will have access to an e-portfolio with supporting resources and online lessons as well as the benefit of a one to one allocated assessor on hand to support your learning journey.

Entry requirements

Essential:

You must be at least 18 years old.

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a playwork or holiday club childcare setting to show competence in both knowledge and skills. Placement opportunity must allow for skills application with babies and/or young children. You will also be expected to undertake a observations within the setting.

Qualifications gained

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Playwork.

Assessment methods

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, observation visits, and professional discussions.

Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a variety of assessment tasks including assignment, online learning and activities. Performance and skills-based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and will include assessor visits to carry out observations in the workplace. All assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit the individual needs of the learner.

You will study:

This qualification aims to:

  • focus on the study of the role of the playworker
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • acquire knowledge and understanding of the occupational role of the level 3 playworker in context
  • demonstrate competence required for professional practice in the role of the level 3 playworker

 

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully achieve 53 credits: 43 credits from the 13 mandatory units and a further 10 credits from the optional units.

Within this qualification, you will complete 13 mandatory units:

  • PW1 Understand Play and the Playwork Principles
  • PW2 Creating Supporting Environments for Children’s Play
  • PW3 Understand How to Support the Safeguarding of Children in the Playwork Setting
  • PW4 Understand Organisational Frameworks to Protect the Rights of Children
  • PW5 Understand Play and Wellbeing
  • PW6 Understand Relationships in the Playwork Setting
  • PW7 Understand Health, Safety and Security in the Playwork Setting
  • PW8 Engage in Professional Development and Reflective Practice
  • PW9 Contribute to organisational frameworks to respond to all children’s needs and preferences
  • PW10 Maintain healthy, safe and secure environments in playwork
  • PW11 Develop and promote relationships in the playwork setting
  • PW12 Prepare for and support children’s play
  • PW13 Supporting inclusion in a playwork setting

All Learners will need to undertake observations and assessments and will therefore, need to be in a position in their placement to be observed.

This qualification covers children between the ages of 4 and 16 years.

At an additional cost, all learners complete a Paediatric First Aid Course to be able to be counted in full adult: child ratios.
