Playwork CACHE Level 2 Diploma

This qualification is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and understanding of the principles and theories that underpin playwork and
the importance of play in the lives of children aged 4–16. It covers the knowledge and skills needed when working under supervision and requires the learner to demonstrate the full application of knowledge and understanding over a period in the workplace.

Workbased Learning allows students the benefits of gaining a recognised qualification whilst working. All students will have access to an e-portfolio with supporting resources and online lessons as well as the benefit of a one to one allocated assessor on hand to support your learning journey.

Need to know

Entry requirements

Essential:

You must be at least 16 years old

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a playwork or holiday club childcare setting to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You will also be expected to undertake a observations within the setting.

Qualification gained

NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma in Playwork.

Assessment methods

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, observation visits, and professional discussions.

Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a variety of assessment tasks including assignment, online learning and activities. Performance and skills-based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and will include assessor visits to carry out observations in the workplace.

All assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit the individual needs of the learner.

Course content

You will study:

This qualification covers children between the ages of 4 and 16 years

This qualification aims to:

  • focus on the study of the importance of play and playwork in children’s lives
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • build knowledge and skills needed to work under supervision with children in a playwork setting

To be awarded this qualification, learners are required to successfully achieve 56 credits: 40 credits from the 12 mandatory units, plus a minimum of 16 credits from the optional units.

Within this qualification, you will complete 12 mandatory units:

  • PW1 Understand the Playwork Principles
  • PW2 Understand the playwork setting
  • PW3 Meeting children’s needs in a playwork setting
  • PW4 Child-centred practice in a playwork setting
  • PW5 Understand how to support children with additional needs and disabilities in a playwork setting
  • PW6 Support Relationships in the Playwork Setting
  • PW7 Support children’s play
  • PW8 Supporting Health, Safety and Security in the Playwork Setting
  • PW9 Risk benefit for children
  • PW10 The safeguarding and welfare of children in a playwork setting
  • PW11 Support the work of the playwork team
  • PW12 Develop own practice

All Learners will need to undertake observations and assessments and will therefore, need to be in a position in their placement to be observed.
