Photography HND (Part time)

The Pearson BTEC HND Photography course aims to develop students as professional, self-reflecting individuals able to meet the demands of clients and employers in the Photography sector and adapt to a constantly changing world. The qualifications aim to widen access to higher education and enhance career prospects.

Higher Education at Tresham is taught by Art & Design specialist practitioners, with extensive vocational and academic experience. Flexibility of the full and part time courses allow students to manage work and family commitments alongside study requirements. In addition, competitive course fees and additional supporting bursaries enable more accessible learning.

The BTEC Higher National qualification in Photography incorporates an enhanced work-related curriculum that is designed to equip students with the right skills and competencies for the workplace, or progression to Degree TopUp and or employment.

Course information

  1. Students from HNC will be required to have successfully passed their Level 4 year and demonstrated commitment to progress to the next level.
  2. External students will be required to attend a portfolio interview with subject staff and give evidence of prior learning within the subject area and must complete a Level 4 programme of study prior to acceptance on level 5 HND.

The method of assessment is via evidence-based submissions – recommended and types of evidence may include:

  • A portfolio of development work and outcomes.
  • Physical and digital prototypes.
  • Written reports, essays or case studies.
  • Planning and research documents, files and links.
  • Audio and visual presentations.
  • Exhibitions of outcomes.

Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma HND in Photography.

Course progression:

Progression to the BA Hons TopUp, employment or a combination of the two depending on the individual.

Career progression:

Employed / Freelance Professional Photographer within the Creative Industries. Specific career progression can range from Wedding Photography and Lifestyle to Advertising and Editorial, Medical, Marine and Interior Photography.

Additional costs  / trips

It is expected that students will have digital SLR or Mirrorless cameras and / or analogue film cameras. Trips are planned throughout the year and these are dependent on availability of relevant exhibitions. There are usually three cultural trips a year. It is suggested that students should budget ÂŁ25 for each college coach trip and additional funding for independent travel.
