Photography HNC (Part time)The BTEC Higher National Certificate qualification in Photography incorporates an enhanced work-related curriculum that is designed to equip students with the right skills and competencies for progression to Level 5 HND and level 6 (BA Hons Top Up), equally to support initial steps to working independently, within the Creative Industries.

Course information
32-48 UCAS points and English language and maths GCSE grade 4 or above.
1. Current students will be required to have successfully passed their Level 3 year 2nd Year programme and demonstrate commitment to progress to Level 4
2. External students will be required to attend a portfolio interview with subject staff and give evidence of prior learning within the subject area to align with Level 4.
The course is delivered over 2 academic years covering one Core Module with two main units.
Core Module:
Module A – Process & Practice:
- Unit A1 Concept & Development – completed in Year 1
- Unit A2 Creative Project – completed in Year 2
Content is delivered based on the following unit criterion:
1. Contextual Knowledge
2. Ideas Generation & Development
3. Technical Knowledge & Skill
4. Professional Practice.
5. Communication.
Formative feedback supports assessment throughout the year, ensuring group and individual sessions on feedback are achieved.
Optional modules:
All Modules are Compulsory.
Specialist modules:
Specialist elements are built in to the programme and dependent on individual pathways requirements.
Students attend for 6 hours a week and it is expected that they match that with independent study time.
The method of assessment is via evidence-based submissions – recommended and types of evidence may include:
- A portfolio of development work and outcomes.
- Physical and digital prototypes.
- Written reports, essays or case studies.
- Planning and research documents, files and links.
- Audio and visual presentations.
- Exhibitions of outcomes.
Upon successful completion of this course, you will gain a Pearson BTEC HNC (Higher National Certificate) in Photography.
Progression to Level 5 and Level 6 Top Up and or employment / Postgraduate and Masters Degree programmes.
Costs:
We aim to provide a minimum of 3 cultural trips a year, the average cost of these trips is £25.00.
