Pesticide Application (PA6A): Hand Held Applicators NPTC Level 2 Award

This course is ideal if you are working in forestry, agriculture, horticulture or green keeping and apply pesticides using a pedestrian hand-held applicator.

Putting the Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides information into practice.

NPTC 0216-49 PA1is a pre-requisite for this course.

This course was previously known as PA6

PA6AW (near or to water) is an additional unit for PA6. Please let us know at the time of booking if you require this, as there is an additional cost of £60.

Entry requirements

There is a pre-requisite for this course that candidates must have already passed the Pesticide Application (PA1): Safe Use of Pesticides NPTC Level 2 Award (course code B1311).

What qualification will I gain?

Pesticide Application (Pa6a): Hand Held Applicators NPTC Level 2 Award.

Course content

What will I study?
  • Calibration of sprayer
  • Spraying Speed
  • Correct use of concentrated and diluted pesticide
  • Correct selection of nozzles and pressure for spraying conditions and types of pesticides used.
  • Calculation of area to be sprayed
  • Wind speeds and other spraying conditions
  • Practical spraying
  • Practice for Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticides using Pedestrian Hand-Held Equipment test

You will study the following topics:

  • Preparation of spray equipment
  • Applicator calibration
  • Record keeping
  • Operating techniques and safe application
  • Post-spraying procedures

Next steps

‘Application to Water’ can be covered at the end of the PA6A course. This is a beneficial qualification for those working in the agriculture and horticulture industries or self employed in roles such as a gardener or groundskeeper.

To take part in this course you must bring PPE (personal protective equipment) and other tools and equipment as listed on the joining instructions. These will be emailed to you a few weeks before the course is due to start – please contact us to confirm you have the required items.

Funding Information

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course. Alternatively, you can pay by instalments to help make the cost of this course more affordable.
