Performing Engineering Operations Level 2 NVQ DiplomaThis year-long part-time course is ideal if you want to develop hand fitting and machining skills in a workshop environment. You will gain a basic understanding of the workshop environment, and the course can range from basic hand fitting skills through to operating milling machines and centre. You will be required to produce components that are practical and can be kept on successful completion of the course.

To begin this course, an interest in mechanical engineering is desirable, along with a reasonable level of ability in English and maths (GCSE grades A-D are desirable).
The course will cover health and safety, marking out procedures, hand fitting skills, operation of centre lathes and vertical milling machines. During the course you will study the following topics:
- Working safely in an engineering environment
- Working efficiently and effectively in engineering
- Using and communicating technical information
- Making components using hand tools and fitting techniques
- Using lathes for turning operations
- Preparing and Using Milling Machines.
EAL LEVEL 2 NVQ DIPLOMA IN PERFORMING ENGINEERING OPERATIONS
There will be assessed components and knowledge questions produced at each stage, which will contribute to passing the course.
After the initial workshop operations there are manufactured components, which will be assessed according to set criteria, with knowledge questions on each unit taken.
On successful completion of this course, depending on your final grade, you can progress to study an engineering qualification at either Level 2 or Level 3.
To take part in this course you will be required to wear suitable personal protective equipment, such as overalls and safety boots.
