Oracle Database and SQL Programming

This standalone commercial course provides you with the opportunity to develop your database programming skills. This practical-based course allows you to experience databases and programming through hands-on delivery.

The course content focuses on the fundamentals of database management and includes scalability, security, availability and optimisation of the systems.

Whilst on the programme, you’ll have the opportunity experiment with SQL (Structured Query Language) and will utilise data queries, data manipulation, data definitions and data control.

Alongside the delivery, you will have access to the Oracle Virtualised classroom where additional resources, support materials and activities can be found for to build up your confidence and ability.

Proficiency in Oracle Database and SQL programming is essential for developers, database administrators, and anyone involved in managing and extracting information from relational databases. These skills are foundational for building robust and efficient database-driven applications.

Course content

What will I study?

This course serves as a foundation for handling database operations, optimising performance, ensuring data integrity, and leveraging SQL for effective data management and retrieval.

Database Architecture:

  • Understanding Oracle database architecture including instance, memory structures, and background processes.

Database Creation and Management:

  • Creating and managing Oracle databases using tools like SQL Developer and SQL*Plus.
  • Configuring initialisation parameters and managing storage structures.

Schema Objects:

  • Creating and managing schema objects such as tables, indexes, views, sequences, and synonyms.
  • Understanding different data types and constraints.

Data Manipulation Language (DML):

  • Writing and executing SQL queries using SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE statements.
  • Performing data retrieval and modification.

Data Control Language (DCL):

  • Managing database security using GRANT and REVOKE statements.
  • Understanding roles and privileges.

Backup and Recovery:

  • Performing database backups and restores.
  • Using RMAN (Recovery Manager) for backup and recovery operations.
