NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Preparing to work in Adult Social Care

The aim of this qualification is to provide an ideal taster for learners who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It is accessible to learners of all ages who may want understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector.

It will introduce knowledge around the following areas relating to working in adult social care:

  • Communication
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Personal development
  • Role of the social care worker
  • Handling information
  • Health & Safety
  • Safeguarding
  • Duty of care
  • Person-centred approaches.

It relates to the knowledge elements covered in the mandatory units of the Health & Social Care Diploma at level 3. Learners progressing to the Health & Social Care Diploma at level 3 will therefore have gained the underpinning knowledge for these units.

  • Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
  • Principles for implementing duty of care in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Understanding the role of the social care worker
  • Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings
  • Understand heath and safety in social care settings
  • Understand how to handle information in social care settings

Next steps

  • Prepare for further learning or training and/or develop knowledge and/or skills in subject area.
  • Develop knowledge and/or skills in a subject area.
  • Introduces the subject and industry to those who wish to start a career in Adult Social Care.
