NCFE Level 3 Award in Working with Babies and Young Children Under 2 Years

This qualification is designed to explore the statutory requirements of the early years framework, the early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework, along with non-statutory guidance, Development Matters and Birth to 5 Matters.

This qualification has been developed to engage practitioners in specialist

training when caring for babies and young children under 2 years, as identified in the statutory requirements. An early years setting refers to any professional care provided for babies and young children under 2 years.

This qualification is not full and relevant. It is a professional development unit of study to improve professional skills for practitioners working or volunteering with babies and young children under 2 years.

This qualification includes both knowledge and skills.

Workbased Learning allows students the benefits of gaining a recognised qualification whilst working.

All students will have access to an e-portfolio with supporting resources and online lessons as well as the benefit of a one to one allocated assessor on hand to support your learning journey.

Need to know

Entry requirements

Essential:

Learners must be aged 16 or over.

The learner must be either employed in an early years practitioner role or in a volunteering role in an early years setting to be able to meet the assessment requirements of this qualification.

An early years setting refers to any professional care provided for babies and young children under 2 years.

Qualification gained

NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award in Working with Babies & Young Children under 2yrs old.

Assessment methods

All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, observation visits, and professional discussions.

Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a variety of assessment tasks including assignment, online learning and activities. Performance and skills-based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and will include assessor visits to carry out observations in the workplace.

All assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit the individual needs of the learner.

You will study:

This qualification is designed for those who work with children and young children under 2years old.

It provides a professional development opportunity and aims to develop the appropriate knowledge and skills to enable learners to:

  • focus on the study of working with babies and young children under 2 years in an early years setting
  • offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
  • provide opportunities to develop practical skills in relation to providing professional care for babies and young children under 2 years in an early years setting

The objectives of this qualification are to:

  • focus on how the holistic care and educational needs of babies and young children under 2 years are met by practitioners
  • improve ways of working in relation to Section 3 of the early years foundation stage (EYFS) statutory framework in relation to safeguarding and welfare requirements

Within this qualification, Learners will complete 1 mandatory unit.

The mandatory Unit is:

  • Unit 01 Working with babies and young children under 2years in adherence with statutory requirements.

Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a setting with babies and young children aged 0-2 years to show competence in both knowledge and skills.

This qualification provides opportunities for continual professional development (CPD) which can lead to an increase in confidence, improved practice and better outcomes for children and young people. This award provides opportunities for specialist learning for practitioners working in a early setting for children aged 0-years

Upon achievement of this qualification learners could continue to progress onto further studies such as:

  • Level 3 SEND in early years
  • Level 4 PANCo
  • Level 4 Emotional Wellbeing in Early Years
  • Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry for Early Years Workforce (EYE Diploma)
  • Level 4 Advanced Practitioner in Early Years
