NCFE CACHE Level 3 Technical Occupational Entry in Supporting Teaching and Learning (Diploma)The Level 3 Diploma in Supporting Teaching and Learning is designed for those working directly with children and young people in a education and learning environments, this can be a school or college.
This qualification will provide learners with an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed when working directly with children and young people in school and college environments.
It covers all aspects of specialist support, including planning; delivering and reviewing assessment strategies to support learning alongside the teacher; bilingual support; special needs support; and personal development and reflective practice. It is aimed at learners working in support roles within schools and colleges with children aged 5years and above.
Workbased Learning allows students the benefits of gaining a recognised qualification whilst working. All students will have access to an e-portfolio with supporting resources and online lessons as well as the benefit of a one to one allocated assessor on hand to support your learning journey.

Entry requirements
Essential:
Learners must be aged 19 or over
As learners need to show competence in both skills and knowledge, they will need to be working or be on a practical placement for the duration of the taught programme of study in a learning environment (school or college). It is recommended that learners undertake 200 placement hours in a real work environment (RWE), to be completed throughout the duration of the qualification before certification.

Assessment methods
All units will be internally assessed using a range of methods including written assignments, observation visits, and professional discussions.
Knowledge based outcomes can be assessed using a variety of assessment tasks including assignment, online learning and activities. Performance and skills-based outcomes must be achieved with reference to a real work environment and will include assessor visits to carry out observations in the workplace.
All assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit the individual needs of the learner.

This qualification aims to:
• enable entry to the associated occupation, providing entry competence, however further learning may be required in the workplace to reach full occupational competence
• focus on the study of the supporting teaching and learning
• offer breadth and depth of study, incorporating a key core of knowledge
• provide opportunities to acquire a number of practical and technical skills.
The objectives of this qualification is to:
• provide learners with in depth understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to work in a school or college environment
• provide a stepping stone into further learning within the sector
Within this qualification, Learners will complete 16 mandatory units, gaining 53 credits.
The units are:
• Unit 01: Schools and colleges as organisations
• Unit 02: Support health and safety in a learning environment
• Unit 03: Understand how to safeguard children and young people
• Unit 04: Develop professional relationships with children, young people and adults
• Unit 05: Understand how children and young people develop
• Unit 06: Support positive behaviour in children and young people
• Unit 07: Support children and young people during learning activities
• Unit 08: Support English and Maths skills
• Unit 09: Support the use of ICT in the learning environment
• Unit 10: Support assessment for learning
• Unit 11: Engage in personal and professional development
• Unit 12: Support children and young people’s speech, language and communication
• Unit 13: Understand how to support bilingual learners
• Unit 14: Understand how to support learning of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities
• Unit 15: Support children and young people during transitions
• Unit 16: Support the role of play, leisure and extra-curricular activities for children and young people
Learners will need to be working, volunteering or on practical placement in a school setting to show competence in both knowledge and skills. Placement opportunity should allow for adults to be able to support children with English and Maths lessons as well as supporting ICT.
In addition to this the Diploma units will cover transitions to other schools, supporting play and leisure and ensuring safe activities for after school.
Next steps
Course progression:
Learners can progress onto the Level 4 Advanced Practitioner in Schools & Colleges, a Foundation degree or specialist support role within the workforce.
Career progressions:
Upon achievement of this qualification learners will be able to go into the work place as a Level 3 qualified learning support practitioner. Example job roles could be teaching assistant, assistant teacher, classroom assistant, learning support assistant, specialist curriculum support.
