Nail Technology Level 2 Award

The VTCT Skills Level 2 Award in Nail Technology is a qualification that has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in providing and maintaining nail enhancements using either UV gel or liquid and powder nail systems.

The legislations referred to within this qualification apply to UK learners. For learners outside of the UK, you should familiarise yourself with legislations that may apply to you.

You will develop a sound knowledge of health and safety whilst working in the nail industry. You will also develop a knowledge and understanding of the practical skills learned throughout this qualification. The purpose of this qualification is to develop your practical skills to a high level of occupational ability to enable you to perform your own salon services. The legislations referred to within this qualification apply to UK learners.

For learners outside of the UK, you should familiarise yourself with legislations that may apply to you. This qualification has been specifically designed to develop your practical skills in:

  • The artistic skill of nail enhancement
  • Providing effective consultation for services
  • Delivering professional, confident client consultations

Entry requirements

There are no formal prerequisite qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this qualification.

Desirable: Understanding of anatomy and physiology on the muscles, blood supply and bones of the hand and arm.

The qualification gained

VTCT Skills Level 2 Award in Nail Technology.

Assessment methods

There are a variety of different assessment methods used to meet the criteria of the awarding body. There is a written assessment or quiz, with every unit. Some units have an external, multiple choice, exam and for the practical assessments.

There are several assessed observations, with different units. These MUST be carried out on realistic clients.

6 practical observations

  • 1 external exam.
  • Nail enhancements – 120 minutes (full set)
  • Nail enhancements maintenance – 90 minutes (1 colour)
  • Nail enhancements removal – 60 minutes
  • Natural nail overlays – 75 minutes
