Course information

Entry requirements

To qualify onto this course you will need Level 1 qualifications in MIG, TIG and MMA welding. An interview is also required to assess your suitability for the course in addition to a maths and English assessment.

Course content

This comprehensive welding course builds on the key skills learned during Level 1 and covers the following aspects:

  • Health and Safety in welding processes
  • How to interpret technical data
  • How to work efficiently in an engineering environment
  • How to produce welds in all positions using the MIG, TIG and MMA processes in a range of materials
  • How to cut materials using thermal methods (oxy/acetylene and plasma)
Assessment methods

Your work will be assessed by means of practical test pieces and portfolio work.

Additional information

Students are required to wear strong boots and overalls during all workshop sessions. Other protective equipment will be provided.

Funding Information

Pay by instalments

The College offers an instalment plan for Further Education and Higher Education courses to students where the total amount payable at the point of enrolment is £200 or more. Within the scheme there is an ability to pay up to 6 instalments, depending on the length of the courses and the final payment must be paid at least a month before the end of the course.
