Overview
Introductory Metal Inert Gas Welding Level 1 AwardThis course is a great introduction to the key aspects of MIG welding. By the end of the programme you will be able to set up the welding equipment, change wire, gases and electrodes and produce basic welds in flat and horizontal positions. There is also a key focus on how to work safely in a welding environment.
This course is ideal for you if you are a Beginner or a welder wishing to gain experience of other welding processes and seeking a basic qualification in welding.

Need to know
The qualification
Level 1 Award In Introductory Welding Skills – Metal Inert Gas (MIG) Welding (3268-13).
Assessment methods
Five practical tasks, plus a written/ verbal assessment.
Course content
You will study:
- Produce beads on plate in the PA flat position
- other
- Produce a lap fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
- other
- Produce a tee fillet weld in the PA flat position
- other
- Produce a tee fillet weld in the PB horizontal/vertical position
- other
- Produce a corner weld in the PA flat position
Skills gained
The qualification will help you develop your welding and fabrication skills, and take on jobs that require basic welding.
Next steps
After taking a Level 1 qualification, you could move on to a Level 2 Award or Certificate or apply for various Job vacancies in the Welding Industry.
