Introductory Culinary Skills (Level 1)

This course develops cookery skills using different cookery methods and cooking a variety of food.

Need to know

Entry requirements

3 GCSEs grades 9–1 and ideally including English & maths.

You must also have a keen interest in cooking and a passion for food.

How will I be assessed?

Once trained you will then demonstrate that you are competent to plan and cook a dish by yourself in a timed assessment.

There are also a short answer question paper to test your subject knowledge.

Course content

What will I study?

You will be trained how to prepare and cook a range of food using different cooking methods.

You will also be taught the theory of how and why cooking methods work.

 

Next steps

Course progression

After completing this course, you can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Culinary skills. This takes the skills learnt and then progress on to cooking meals similar to working in a Gastro Pub

What are the expected employment sectors for this course?

This can lead to jobs working in a café, fast food restaurant, Fish bar, or as kitchen assistants in a restaurant or hotel
