Introduction to Care and Childcare (Level 1)

The Level 1 Diploma in Introduction to Health and Social Care (Adults and Children and Young People), Early Years and Childcare is suitable for learners who want to work in the health and social care and early years and childcare sectors.

This qualification will develop the knowledge and awareness of the types of provision in the Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s sectors. They include the roles played by workers – from principles and values through to health and safety and working with others.

Entry requirements

Essential:

3 GCSEs grades 9-1 and a keen interest in the subject.  Other relevant levels of qualification or experience will be considered.

What qualification will I gain?

Diploma in Introduction to  Care and Childcare Level 1.

How will I be assessed?

The course will be assessed using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework, methods such as oral questioning and presentations or community projects.

The Level 1 Care and Childcare Course offers a thorough introduction to the key concepts, skills, and behaviours necessary for effective caregiving and childcare. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid foundation, preparing you for further education’

  • Overview of the care industry and childcare sector.
  • Roles and responsibilities of caregivers and childcare workers.
  • Ethical principles and professional standards.
  • Communication Skills; Active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution
  • Understanding safeguarding principles and procedures.
  • Stages of physical, cognitive, and emotional development.
  • Recognizing and supporting developmental milestones.

What skills will I gain?

Our Level 1 Care and Childcare Course is tailored  to build a strong foundation in both general caregiving and childcare. This course provides the essential skills and behaviours needed to excel in various caregiving settings.

We will help you explore and develop your life and general skills to enable you to become a confident practitioner and a student that is  ready for their next steps.

Next steps

Course progression:

On successful completion of the course it provides progression to Level 2 qualifications in health and social care or early years

Career progression:

The course provides opportunities for the development of transferable skills into entry level employment in some areas of the care sector.

Additional information

A mandatory payment for compulsory trips and events  that support your learning will be required at the start of your course. This will be a maximum of £75.

All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.
