Hospitality and Catering Introductory (Level 1)The level 1 certificate offers a supportive foundation of practical skills and knowledge across 3 sectors within the industry (Kitchen, Patisserie skills and Food and Drink service) to assist with moving to a higher-level qualification and gain essential industry related skills to support industry behaviours and employment.
To support Food Hygiene regulations, a level 2 food safety qualification will also be completed within the first 4 weeks of programme.
The Manor House Restaurant is our key tool to deliver sessions under realistic working conditions. With one dedicated session per week, this will enhance employability skills, industry related behaviours and an opportunity to showcase prior learnt skills. With close relationships with various employers and professional organisations, these stakeholders input value information and professional skills to support assessment and future employment

Entry requirements
3 GCSEs grades 9–1 and ideally including English & maths and a keen interest in catering.
What qualifications will I gain?
- Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to the Hospitality Industry
- Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate
How will I be assessed?
Practical and written based assessments will be conducted throughout the programme.

What will I study?
You will study:
- Unit 113 – Health and safety and food safety awareness in catering
- Unit 114 – Introduction to kitchen equipment
- Unit 111 – Using kitchen equipment
- Unit 101 – Introduction to the hospitality industry
- Unit 106 – Basic food preparation and cooking
- Unit 120 – Introduction to pastry and cake preparation and cooking methods
- Unit 107 – Preparing and serving drinks
- Unit 127 – Food and beverage service skills
- Unit 128 — Hot beverage skills
Next steps
Course progression:
With a level 1 qualification you will be equipped and suited in a commis chef/ food and beverage server or similar job role.
You will have the opportunity to progress to a Level 2 diploma in Food and drink service where you will be working towards a chef de partie job role or similar.

- Three planned trips throughout the programme will cost £120
