Health & Social Care Intermediate (Level 2)This study programme will provide learners with the knowledge and understanding essential to the health and social care sector. On successful completion you may be given the opportunity to progress to a T Level or other relevant qualifications. You will have the opportunity to put theory into practice by carrying out relevant activities in industry placements and be supported in developing knowledge, skills and behaviour to prepare you for progression opportunities and industry roles.

To begin this study programme you will need:
3 GCSEs grades 9-3 OR equivalent qualification at Level 1 will be considered.
Entry will also be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
During the study programme you will learn a variety of topics and concepts including:
- Equality, diversity and rights in health and social care
- Human growth and development through the life span
- The role and responsibilities of the health and social care practitioner in relation to safeguarding
If you do not already have GCSE English and maths grade 9-4 (A*-C), this will be included as part of your study programme.
During the study programme you will attend a childcare placement weekly.
As part of your study programme, you will take part in enrichment opportunities, including a variety of trips, to support the development of knowledge, skills and behaviour to prepare you for progression to further study or industry roles.
The course will be assessed using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework, methods such as oral questioning and presentations or community projects.
You will gain:
Level 2 Extended Diploma in Health & Social Care
On successful completion of this study programme, learners can enter the health and social care workforce in Level 2 positions or be given the opportunity to progress to Level 3 qualifications, including T Levels, or other relevant qualifications.
Additional information
A mandatory payment for compulsory trips and events that support your learning will be required at the start of your course. This will be a maximum of £75.

Funding Information
All full-time Level 1 and Level 2 courses are now FREE for everyone, whatever their age. If you are looking to study a Level 3 qualification, courses might still be free if you’re under 19 or 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification. I would like to train to be a Care Assistant or Support Worker looking after older people, as I have spent time looking after my own grandparents, as well as children in my family. I’ve been given lots of opportunities through the College, including a Health & Care Assistant apprenticeship, which I will start next year in a local care home.
The highlight of the study programme for me has been the work on legislation and the Equality Act in healthcare. It was interesting to study how people are treated and to learn about discrimination in the sector.
I enjoy the written assignments that we have to do and my tutors are very nice and kind. They will always give any help you need.
You feel a lot more responsible for your own learning at College, because it’s a more independent environment where you can develop your own interests. I’m really glad I chose to come here.
